The Host
Family
The great advantage to have an Au Pair lies in her being on the spot and
flexible, to take care of the children and yet prepared to some light housework.
We work with families that respect and value Au Pairs as their children career,
treat them as part of the family. They offer a fair job description of 5 days a
week of maximum 30 hours a week. A designated time to start and time to end the
day, provision of a bedroom and bathroom, and a good allowance. In return for
hospitality and keep, an Au Pair is expected to help her host family with care
of the children and household duties on a partnership basis, and to do her share
of any kind of housework. An Au Pair is not a qualified childminder, nor a
domestic servant; some initial instructions maybe necessary.
All families are visited before a placement to enable us find one or more
applicants whom, it seems, may fit in well with the family’s requirements. After
the family has made their selection; they initiate the first contact with the Au
Pair via Ideal Au Pair. She should be given full information about the family
before she leaves her country and comes to the Netherlands, to avoid any
misunderstanding at both sides.
Once the Au Pair arrives at the
host family, they will apply with the Au Pair for a residence permit with
authorisation for temporary stay at the department of civil affairs of the
municipality and help her to feel more comfortable by taking her around in the
neighbourhood, showing her the school of the children, the local post office,
library, bank, parks, shopping centres and public transportation.
What are the costs?
The compensation of the au pair in
Netherlands receives at a maximum of € 340
per month for 30 hours a week (referred to us as a pocket money).
