Our Cultural Heritage

Philippines' Cultural Heritage, Customs & Traditions

Far from being a mere cluster of islands on the south eastern corner of Asia, the PHILIPPINES is an archipelago blessed with an endless array of landscapes. It brims with beaches, forests, mountains, plains, cliffs, caves, marshes, lakes and rivers - all of it set amidst a stunning backdrop of clear blue skies and an emerald sea. It is home to multi-ethnic people - a varied blend of races, beliefs and customs born from centuries of foreign influence. We are a mixture of Malay, Chinese, Japanese, Spanish, American, Arab, and much more. Despite this diverse background, we have managed to produce an identity of our own. We call ourselves FILIPINOS or simply, PINOY. We are fun-loving and gentle people. Our traditions are deeply-rooted, and it shows in the way we do things. This is, perhaps, most easily seen in the hundreds of events that fill our annual cultural calendar. There are always something exciting happening somewhere in this archipelago... in our key cities MANILA, The Art Capital of the Philippines in RIZAL, The Nature Haven of NEGROS, CEBU, DAVAO... or entertainment capitals OLONGAPO & SUBIC (ZAMBALES), CLARK (PAMPANGA), BAGUIO. Our country, the Philippines is also known as the Wealth Of Wonders...We take the initiative to encourage & invite people from all over the world to come and experience the

Filipino way of celebrating life. We gladly welcome everyone to share in the experience: from small town fiestas to international events. When the celebration is over and it is time leave, our visitors will say goodbye to friends, not strangers. But we will not say goodbye... instead, we will say See you again! Come back soon!

This is the one thing that separates us from the rest of the world - our colourful and lively culture that makes us distinctly Filipino. This includes traditions, language, arts, etc. which are found in museums, churches and galleries, found within the heart of the key cities.

Most provinces have their own identifying folk dances too wherein they showcase the elegance and beauty of the way we do things, the way we dress, the way we see things as shown in different paintings, as we have been influenced by events that happened in our history.

That’s not all. When you have lived in the Philippines long enough, you’ll know that it’s not an exaggeration to say there is a town that’s celebrating its fiesta every single day.
